Zubirri to Pamploma

Roncevalles to Zubirri 22.2 km but it felt like 30!
37 700 steps

Zubirri to Pamploma 21.1 km
30 500 steps
The first half was very pleasant and the second half involved city streets.

We walked most of the day with about 10 women from Barcelona. They are Catalan and when we first saw them in Roncesvalles, they had very little to do with us but as the days went by, they became friendlier. Me very other year they travel together. Two years ago they went to Jerusalem and before that they went to Rome. They left us in Arre this morning and then we met Jon, Lillianne and Bente on our way into the old city centre of Pamploma.

Our alberge is very close to the cathedral and it is quite well run. You are assigned a bed as you register and they put people together with their friends. Our little section had 3 or 4 bunk beds and the only person we did not know was the Korean fellow in the middle. I imagine that the bed bug problem of a few years ago has changed things. Now, many of the alberges give each peregrino a disposable bottom sheet and a pillow cover. You are not permitted to put your pack on the bed. The problem seems under covtrol!

There are many restaurants around the central square and it many of the Orisson people gravitated there. We had dinner with our Irish and Norwegian friends. One thing that takes getting used to is that you cannot get a meal before 7:00/7:30. If you have to be in The alberge by 10:00, that doesn't give much time to digest your dinner.
