The route to Estella is up and down with plenty of interesting sights but it was so hot. We aren't used sweating so much that our skin is always wet and we seem to have salt crystals on our faces.
We walked on ancient roman roads and for the first time we saw evidence of the old Camino. We crossed one old bridge and looked down to see an Italian perigrina stretched out in the river fully clothed. I wool have loved to join her but the thought of walking in wet clothes stopped me. The area has fields of sunflowers and grain.
When we got to Estella we stayed at the Municipal Alberge and it was fine. I had a bottom bunk and the springs from the upper bunk were like barbed wire - my hair would get tangled in them.
Estella is a pretty place and we wandered around for a while when we saw a German perigrina wading in the river. This time Mary and I joined her and waded in. It is amazing how much cold feet cools down the whole body!
Most of the alberges have a curfew - lights out and silent after 10:00. The odd thing is that some alberges turn off the lights at 9:00. Why? It means that we have to get ready for bed in the dark and since we are leaving before 6:00, we are also getting dressed in the dark! By the way, you do get used to people walking to the showers and bathrooms in their underwear.
