Thank goodness we decided to split up our days going over the Pyrenees! Day 1 was tough but 'do'able. We finished around 1:00 and met many friendly people: Sylvie and Matthieu from Lille, "PunChika" from St Jean Pied de Port, Deirdre, Zoe and Christine from Ireland, Sabine from Germany, Jon, Lillianne and Bente from Norway . . . We stayed in our first hostel and it was a good experience. We also met a young Basque fellow who had spent time in Quebec nursing. He was having lunch with friends he met in Quebec and he tried to describe his Basque heritage.
Our room contained three bunk beds so we had to share with a Spanish family. Towels are not provided but bedding was included. We also had a lovely Pilgrims' dinner and breakfast.
